See also [1, 2]. To a boiling solution of 3-bromo-5-nitrosalicylic aldehyde (2.46 g, 10 mmol) and sylvan (2 ml, 25 mmole) in 20 ml of dioxane one drop of 70% perchloric acid was added. The mixture was heated on the water bath for 2 hr and after cooling poured into 200 ml of H2O. The precipitated compound was filtered off and recrystallised from ethanol. Yield 3.41 g (87%). Yellow needles.

M.p. 152-153deg.C.

1H-NMR (CDCl3): 10.69 (s, 1H, OH), 8.28 (s, 1H, 4-HAr), 7.96 (s, 1H, 6-HAr), 5.95-5.88 (m, 4H, 3,4-HFur), 5.74 (s, 1H, CH), 2.2 (s, 6H, CH3) ppm.

Anal. calc. for C17H14BrNO5 (392,206): C 52.06, H 3.59, Br 20.37, N 3.57; found: C 52.1, H 3.6, Br 20.2, N 3.5.
